Despite stringent government regulations for the food and beverage industry, Singapore has been bombarded with numerous food poisoning incidents in recent years. In 2018 alone, Singapore faced seven cases of mass food poisoning.
Improperly cleaned vomit, faecal bacteria and a cockroach infestation were among the hygiene lapses the authorities have found in their investigations into the recent food poisoning outbreaks caused by food prepared at Mandarin Orchard Singapore hotel, FoodTalks Caterer and Manufacturer, Spize River Valley and Tung Lok Millennium.
In the span of less than three weeks, Singapore has been hit with a spate of mass food poisonings, affecting hundreds.
While there have been fewer mass food poisoning incidents in 2019, numerous cases have been reported, including ones that happened at pre-school centres. In August and September, almost 40 persons fell ill during separate food poisoning incidents involving two local caterers.
With so many food presentation guidelines and food nutrition and safety testing innovations available, these incidents could have been avoided if only necessary precautions have been taken.
